Oh Mia, Mia, Mia… This concept was truly therapeutic and thrilling to bring to life. It should be said that there is something to be noticed when it comes to what is happening in film for the genre of horror. For me, horror and everything that comes with it is an endless resource of inspiration. But since 2020 or so, it feels as though there has been a noticeable shift. More originality, risks, and less remakes. Mia Goth in particular has been a spearhead for this movement. The Pearl/X/MaXXXine franchise was influential in this whole female rage sub-genre, and she has earned her notoriety for being a scream queen. Her love for this typically overlooked form of art/film is infectious and clear through the way she transforms for each role. I appreciated channeling and transforming myself into one of the best embodiments of female rage - something typically not celebrated by the way - and used this as a way to get some of my own screams out, maybe even practice my axe swinging too.
